Hi, I have just gotten the Nikon 4000 ED scanner, and plan to get the 5.5 Silverfast Ai and IT8 just as soon as it's available (next week?). I was wondering if there was a film preset available in Silverfast for Agfa Scala film. This B/W slide film has give me the greatest grief in trying to get a good scan. Any suggestions on settings would be appreciated.
Thanks...

<b> Nikon Scanner and Film Type Profile</b>
SilverFast Ai 5.2 uses the standard Nikon negative function, which is built into the scanner. Since this is a static function there is no ability to adjust to different film types.
<b> Only SilverFast Ai 5.5 will solve this problem</b> but we are dependent on Nikon to supply appropriate resources so we can implement our new NegaFix properly. We hope to get the relevant information by the end of this week or some time next week. We have to ask everyone to exercise some patience!

Agfa Scala is a positive B/W film (but is not E-6). Are you saying I would use Negafix to scan this type of film? I was hoping there was a preset for this film, since it is a special type of slide film. It doesn't seem like IT8 calibration would help with this film, since it's grayscale and not RGB. Has anyone here worked with this film?

Positive Black & White Film
Positive Film should be scanned as positive. Linearisation of the shading can be done with gradational control.
IT8 Calibration can help with the linearisation.

Karl-Heinz posted on comp.periphs.scanners that 5.5 for the LS4000 would have proper optimizing of B/W positives. I have downloaded the demo, and tried it with B/W positives, making no changes except to select grayscale. I'm still getting very dark scans. Is there something specific I need to select to get this optimizing of B/W positives, or should it be done automatically?
Thanks for any suggestions,
