Dear all

I own a Nikon CoolScan IV and wanted to purchase the SilverFast Ai scanner software. However, I intend to upgrade my scanner sometimes during this year.
Because I couldn't find a clear answer to my question if I have to buy the software again, I contacted SilverFast directly. The answer was clear:
You will have to buy the complete SilverFast Ai software ($168) every time you upgrade your scanner. Or in case you own two scanners you will need to by two times the software.
I can't afford to by the complete software again everytime I change the hardware. A small upgrade fee would be acceptable but in this case I'll have to stick with my Nikon software.
It's a bit of a shame because I like the SilverFast tool, however.....

I know there were a few guys who had the same question. I hope my posting clarifies the situation.

Thanks
Stephan

Dear Stephan,

SilverFast plugins are communicating directly with the hardware (your scanner) through the firmware of that scanner.
Therefore, all SilverFast versions are mostly completely different, because almost every scanner has it's own unique firmware and functions.
That means, whenever you'll buy a new scanner, you'll need a new SilverFast software for it, which can communicate and control that specific scanner.
If you should really buy yourself new scanners every year, please contact sales@silverfast.com for a price reduction.

Thanks for your reply

I can't afford to buy a new scanner every year. However, I'm starting to need better quality prints (bigger size), so I'm considering an upgrade of my scanner. Anyway, I may come back to you when I've upgraded to a new scanner.

Best Regards
Stephan
