I received my Photoshop 7 update today. Before I update my Photoshop application to Photoshop 7. Should I remove all of my plugin and Silverfast 5.5 software from my Photoshop 6 folders before installing Photoshop 7? or will Photoshop 7 leave every plugin alone and I don't have to reinstall other software plugin ? I am assuming that SilverFast 5.5 will fully function with Photoshop 7 on a Mac OS 9.1 system. Thank you

Photoshop 7 on OS X will NOT be able to even see your SilverFast Plugins so I would keep PS6 on your system until PS7 versions are available. The plugins will work OK with PS7 on OS9. You can leave the folder as they are and in the PS7 choose the existing plugins folder as asecondary source.

You can install PS7 for OS X and OS9 without removing PS6. In gact that is EXACTLY how I've been running PS7 Beta for this past few months

SilverFast for Photoshop 7 and Mac OSX

We are currently uploading SilverFast versions for OSX and SCSI-scanners. The early versions that we were uploading had an installer for SilverFast SF_App our stand-a-lone application.

The SilverFast Plug-ins for OSX are all compatible with Photoshop 7. We will now upload a Combo-Installer, that will give the choice to install into Photoshop 7 or to install the SF-App with SilverFast or install both.

The next scanners with USB interface we will support will be Epson scanners.

I am thinking of getting an Expression 1680 Artist because of it's 48 bit depth. (I now have a 1600.) I use USB.

One of the determining factors is SilverFast, which I have demoed. I am pretty much 100% in Mac OS 10.1.3, using Photoshop 7 and Illustrator 10. I realize that I will have to spend $45 to upgrade the SilverFast bundle to 5.5, or whatever the latest version is.

Will I have to spend more money to get OS X and Photoshop & compatibility? (I am currently using Epson's Scan-to-File bridge.)

Thank you,

-David

You want good scans, and the most out of your system..... you gotta have Silverfast.

Upgrade cost or waiting for the version that works with your system can not be an issue.

That is my opinion and feelings about SilverFast's scanning software in 50 words or less.

Period.

Sincerely,

David,

you don?t have to spend more money to get OS-X compatibility. If you purchase SilverFast (or upgrade), you will allways get plugins for PC and MAC and for all operating systems on these platforms.

BTW, the Expression 1680 is already running on OS-X via SCSI, USB is coming soon.

Hey!

I see on the site that drivers for Expression 1680 USB are now available for Mac OS X!

Will they work with Photoshop 7?

David,

See my post under the Epson section...I am currently running OS X/Photoshop 7/Epson 2450/SilverFast 5.5.2r11 and my scanner works perfectly via USB connection. My scanner supports FireWire, but that has not been implemented yet under OS X.

If the new version of SilverFast AI for your scanner states it supports a SCSI or USB connection, I would bet you can get it to work. Under OS X, you have to download the Epson Scan-to-File Beta and install only the TWAIN driver for the system to see your scanner. The stand-alone SilverFast application and the Photoshop 7 Plug-In both work.

I know we have different models, but your question sounded similar to my setup.

Let me know if it works for you,

Cory
