SilverFast Ai Saved image does not match preview window view

Hi,

I did try posting a similar question to the "All other problems" section but it has not appeared so I will try again here.

Probably a newbie question, but I am finding after I scan a neg and process it to where I am happy, when I then finalize the process by clicking "Scan" the resultant saved image does not match the colour of what is shown in the preview window and I am not sure why.

http://home.exetel.com.au/steve-ulli/Pics/Compare.jpg is a before/after example. You can see the lower saved image is a little lighter and yellower than what I have set in SilverFast above it.

Would there be a reason for this? Basically I wish to adjust an image to how I want in the Preview window and then end up with a saved image looking exactly the same i.e. WYSIWYG.

All I have done is Prescan from my Plustek neg scanner, applied the correct NegaFix profile, clicked the Automatic adjustments icon, then applied a histogram correction next to it. I'm happy visually with the result but, as I mentioned, the final saved result does not look the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dear Steve,

There are many possible reasons for this small difference.
- The "preview" application in Mac does not have a color management system. It means you do not actually know how "preview" is interpreting the image. In this case you should try using another program to visualize the endscan, the mentioned program should have color management system where you can force the program to use the embeded profile

-When the endscan is opened in "preview" the focus is not on SilverFast anymore, if you go back to SilverFast, you will see that the difference reduces.

- Prescan not always equals the endscan. The prescan is a low resolution scan also the temperature of the lamp varies, the more you use it, the more stable it becomes. You can always use a higher prescan resolution, this can be done in the options dialogue/general.

There are certain tools in SilverFast which apply corrections which are only seen in every visualization window and at the end (e.g. AACO, iSRD, etc.). In other words, this changes can only be seen in the visualizer of every dialogue, once you close the dialogue, the option is active but the changes are not reflected on the preview window anymore but only at the resulting image.

Cheers

Hi, I have the same problem with my neg scans... the difference is that the resulting image is A LOT more red than the original, making useless the scan... I've noticed, also, that on LOWER resolution the "red add" is REALLY minor... I'll usually scan at 2400 dpi.
Here it is an example image of the before/after scan...

can anyone please help me? I'm stuck in being not able to scan anything, due to this problem...

Dear Steve,

Could you please make sure the SilverFast window is active instead of the "preview"?

Thanks

Actually, I believe it does. In fact, the General Info tab in Preview was indicating there was no Colorsync profile associated with the scanned image. And this gave me the clue to the solution.

Sure enough, when I loaded the scanned image in to Photoshop it complained there was no embedded profile and asked me what to do, confirming the same.

So I rechecked my CMS Options in SF and sure enough "Embed ICC profile" was unticked.

I enabled this option and did another endscan. The image displayed in Preview and PS now match what I see in SF Preview.

Could you please explain this? Why would the difference reduce after the endscan, and after you refocus SF?

Thanks for your help.

in the SilverFast deafult setting the "Embed ICC profile" option is enabled
