Can “48 Bit Color” scans be made with CE Plus?

I’m trying to do a “48 Bit Color” scan with CE Plus and a Coolscan V (and Vista 64bit).
However, that option is blocked (in “Scan Type” it’s lightened) and while “48 Bit HDR Color” is allowed (pages 71-72 of manual), unfortunately it always produces a negative image which is difficult to interpret, perhaps this may be normal in SilverFast, since it’s a RAW scan(?), or because negative images carry more information than positive data?
In any case my Photoshop Elements 6 isn’t sophisticated enough to mention any option for converting the negative data to a positive image.
Then is “48 Bit Color” scanning selectable or possible at all?
Naturally, understanding that the Nikon Coolscan V can provide only 3 x 14 bits, meaning it would convert the 14 bits per color to 8 bits, with the “42->24 Bit Color” option (which does work) perhaps as the only functional TIFF output choice?
Thanks for any information on setting “Scan Type”.
