scanning Xpan negative and positives

Hi,
I've used SilverFast for many years with my Epson 3200 flatbed scanner. I am thinking of purchasing a film scanner for 35mm film. However, I have a question. I own a Hallelblad Xpan that produces negatives or positives that are 24x65mm. As far as I can determine there is no 35mm film scanner that will cover a 65mm wide section of film in a single scan. I have read online that it is possible to scan Xpan films in two passes, creating two different files, and then merge them into a single file with the appropiate software. I have been looking at both the Nikon Coolscan 5000 and the Plustek 7500I. Is it possible to scan Xpan images with these scanners and then merge them, and can I do this with SilverFast software? If not, do you have any suggestions. I own and use Photoshop Elements 6, which has a provision for merging two different files so as to create a panoramic picture.
Thanks,
Jack
