Automatic IT8 Calibration

With the "new" fully automatic calibration (v 6.6), do I need to make any changes in the CMS section of Options or is everything taken care of once I click OK after it says "the calibration was successful with an average delta E of 1.3"? Or do I put my scanner Epson Perfection V750 in the dropdown dialog?
Thanks,
K. Cooper

Dear kbcooper,
you do not need to change any settings in the CMS dialog.
The new .icc profile is automatically selected after the calibration.

I just bought a 4x5 Fuji IT8 transparency target from Lasersoft and ran an automatic calibration. On one pass I got a delta-E value of 1.3 and on another I got 5. What is the significance of the delta-E value? Does each iteration of the calibration overwrite the currently-selected profile? The documentation supplied with the target appears to be outdated since it mentions the manual process of saving the icc profile.
Is there any benefit to owning both a Fuji target for Fuji transparency film and a Kodak target for Kodak film? Would the automatic calibration feature be able to distinguish between the two targets? Unlike negatives (which I don't use), there does not appear to be individual film selections for transparencies. Please clarify.

Dear lmenzin ,
very strange that you one got 5 and another time 1.3 as delta E result. The Delta E value describes the quality of the created icc profiles. The lower the value is the better is the quality of the created icc profile.
When using Auto IT 8 calibration SilverFast just supports one type of standard transparency, either fuji or kodak and Kodachrome.
You can use the option for creating a custom profile name for creating more than one transparency profile.

How do I go about manual IT8 calibration? The automatic process doesn't give me a Save As.. option. It just saves the automatically created profile under the default name with no user intervention.

Dear Imezin,
you do not need to deactivate the Auto IT8 Calibration in order to use a custom profile name, we have a setting in
General -> Options -> Auto to enable "custom ICC profile name"

What emulsion is used for the Lasersoft Fuji It8 target? I get great results with Provia, but scanning results with Velvia 100 are sub-par. Is your target intended for Provia/Astia/Ektachrome? I know Velvia 100/100F use a new emulsion introduced in 2003. I would like to find a way to improve scanning results with Velvia 100. Wolf ***** does have 4x5 IT8 targets specifically for this new emulsion.

Dear Imezin,
the target is not intended to calibrate for any specific film type.
It is only used to measure the available color-space offered by the scanner.
The only exception is
Kodachrome film, which needs a special target.

I used the Auto IT8 calibraton function with a SF IT8 reflective target, and everything seemed to go just fine. However, the literature indicates that the software should have given me the opportunity to save the profile somewhere. I am guessing that this is a situation in which either the documentation is behind the function or I am just not reading it correctly. Bottom line: (1) Does SF automatically apply the calibrated profile when I go to scan a reflective target without any need for me to take any action; and (2) how do I confirm that the calibrated profile I made is being applied automatically?
Thanks!

Dear briank, the documentation is not correct anymore as we introduced the fully automatic IT8 Calibration you would just need to click once on the calibrate button and the rest is done automatically.

yes the profile is applied automatically
