IT8 CALIBRATIONS FOR VELVIA & KODACHROME

I am a new user of LaserSoft software recently purchasing a Plustek 7500 AI (6.6) film scanner. My main purpose for purchasing this unit was to scan Fuji Velvia 50 and Kodakrome 25/64 image materials. The Plustek was set up using the included Provia IT8 target as the calibration source. Reviewing the many articles that have appeared on your LS Forums I have not been able to find answers to a couple of questions that I have.

The first question, is there a different IT8 target that should be used to calibrate the scanner for Velvia 50 film?

The second question, do I need to purchase a different IT8 target when I scan Kodachrome film?

Third question, if two IT8 calibration targets are recommended how do I set up the Silverfast software to accommodate the two different calibration targets scans without recalibrating each time I change film types? Is there a pull down menu that can be set up for the appropriate film selection to accomplish this?

Dear Customer,

for the Velvia you won't need another IT8 Target but for the Kodachrome I would reccomend one of our freshly made Kodachrome targets.

For oyur third question aas for Kodachorme you have a Kodachrome mode in the latest version of SilverFast which can be activated to use the Kodachrome ICC Profile.

OK, LS has an option for using a Kodachrome ICC profile for scanning that is built into the software. There is another layer to my third question.

When performing a calibration with the IT8 target (non-Kodachrome) that comes with the software there is a handshake created between what the scanner sees and what the IT8 target (ICC profile) says it should see. This I understand. After this calibration, does this mean that there is now an automatic handshake also between this correlation ICC profile and the Kodachrome ICC profile loaded in the LS software? If so, purchasing a Kodachrome IT8 target might not be required - correct? On the other hand, if this is not the case a second calibration using the Kodachrome IT8 would have to be done. Can the LS software store two different ICC profile calibrations at one time?
