Proper preperation of 48 bit RAW scans for HDR.

I've recently read Ian Lyons's tutorial "Basic steps to optimizing high-bit scans". Setting up SF AI for Raw scans looks to be relatively simple, but there is some "optimization" involved. I've been trying out the demos of AI and HDR. I'm wondering if the 16bit linear scans that I've already made (positives and color negatives) with my KM 5400 II and the Dimage Scan Utility, are optimal enough for HDR. I've worked with a few scans in HDR (Demo) and they seem fine, but I'm still very inexperience at this and am wondering if they are close enough. The reason for me is, I'd like to purchase HDR Studio first (budgeting priorities of course) and later purchase AI -- or even SE Plus -- which seems to be more than enough software to scan to RAW. So I'd greatly appreciate some input from the "experienced".
Thanks,
Kelly
