I have tried the demo version of Ai with my Epson 3170 Photo scanner and am impressed with the results. I am thinking of purchasing Ai but notice that it is scanner specific. My scanner is 4 years old and may not have much life left. If I purchase a scanner specific version of Silverfast and then have to replace my scanner, do I need to purchase another scanner specific version of Silverfast?

Yes. However, you can usually get a "cross upgrade discount". You may be able to find out via the online store or by emailing sales.
