possible to save "neutral point" (gray balance) as
PostPosted: Mon May 07, 2007 5:24 pm
I'm using SF v6.4.4 with an Epson 1640XL flatbed scanner device-profiled via the IT8 chart that came with SilverFast. I'm curious exactly what is automatically saved & applied between SF sessions by using the "neutral point" tool (gray point tool within the highlight/shadow tool). This came up because I want to use the neutral point tool on a GretagMacbeth ColorChecker prescan in order to compensate for a slight green cast from the IT8 chart supplied with SilverFast (the IT8 chart SF uses to make the device profile). So, am wondering:
-- in order to automatically preserve the adjustment applied to scans by using the neutral point tool, is it necessary to save this as a prest via a dialogue box or palette, or is the adjustment automatically applied until or unless the point references from the tool are removed (via "alt"-clicking with the same tool)? Are the neutral point adjustments preserved even after quitting and relaunching SF w/in Photoshop (and/or PS itself)?
-- assuming one doesn't need to save the neutral point adjustment as some sort of external file to be reloaded, and is automatically applied until or unless the points are removed, will SF apply an identical adjustment regardless of the values SF sees within subsequent prescans at those points? In other words, if I prescan the ColorChecker once (with the custom device profile created by SF applied) and use the neutral point tool on it, will subsequent scans also be getting the adjustment from this particular application of the neutral point tool, or will whatever pixels happen to be in alignment with the previous clicks affect subsequent adjustments?
The goal is to apply the device profile in tandem with the adjustment made by the neutral point tool on the ColorChecker.
