I can't get a release date for Ai 64 bit for Windows Vista?

I'm so disappointed that Customer Service can't advise 'if or when' the Windows Vista 64 bit version of SilverFast Ai will be released. Through several emails with support, I have asked for an estimated release date. The basic reply is equal to 'No Idea" :(
It's hard to believe that no one in the LaserSoft complex has an estimate of when SilverFast plans to start, finish, and release the update. I'm a retired aerospace program manager. If I had ever told one of my Customers I had no idea when their project would be done, my career would have been decidedly shorter.
I love Silverfast, have become proficient with it, and have come to rely on the 'batch mode' of processing. I'm doing scans now one at a time, and then reprocessing in Photoshop. VERY labor intensive.
Can anyone suggest an alternative professional scanning software? - Thank you for your help, and listening to my frustration - Bob

Dear Bob,
sorry to hear you are frustrated. We really can't give you a release date though, sorry. This is solely due to the fact that we don?t have
Vista compatible drivers available from
Nikon yet. I just checked their support pages again:
We are currently looking into compatibility for the following models.
SUPER COOLSCAN 9000ED, SUPER COOLSCAN 8000ED, SUPER COOLSCAN 5000ED,SUPER COOLSCAN 4000ED, COOLSCAN V ED, COOLSCAN IV ED
So as soon there will be
Vista 32/64 compatible drivers available from
Nikon we will implement support with SilverFast within a very short timeframe. Please note that SilverFast as an application is Windows
Vista ready! Yet there may be some changes necessary once we were able to test the drivers ourselves.
I have a question though because I don't understand this statement:
I love SilverFast, have become proficient with it, and have come to rely on the 'batch mode' of processing. I'm doing scans now one at a time, and then reprocessing in Photoshop. VERY labor intensive.
Since you love the batch mode, why are you scanning once at a time ?
Thanks for the explanation.
Kind regards,
JAN

Dear Jan - Thank you SO MUCH for your reply, and your reasonable answer. Actually, the scanner is an
Epson 4990 which was bundled with with Silverfast. I see that my 'signature', and and failure to name my scanner must have thrown you off, please accept my apology!
Both the 32 and 64 bit Vista drivers were released by Epson on January 23 of this year for the 4990 scanner. I tried to install the 32 bit Ai software, but Vista won't allow it.
I see on the Lasersoft site (
http://www.silverfast.com/product/en.html?product=483) , that the 64 bit drivers have not been released for either XP or Vista. My concern is that there will never be a 64 bit driver for Vista?
The Epson scanning software doesn't have a 'batch mode', that's why I'm forced to scan one film frame of film at a time.
IMHO, Silverfast Ai is the best scanning utility on the market, and I want to continue using it. Can you please investigate this for the Epson 4990 version and advise? - Thank you again for your response - Bob

I am waiting for the Vista 64bit version for the 4990 as well, Epson have 64bit Vista drivers on their site so it shouldn't take too long for LaserSoft to release an update
I have 300+ slides to scan and was hoping to do them in vista, but it looks like I am going to have to fall back to XP, which kind of sucks considering the price I had to pay for SilverFast AI Studio IT8
Can you give an unofficial release date estimate?

I am also waiting for the Vista 64bit version for the Epson 4990.
The Epson Scan utility and the latest demo version of v**s**n are working fine.
The Epson Vista 64 bit drivers were released in January 07.
Thanks,
Malc...

Add my name to the list of those waiting patiently for a Vista 64bit version of Silverfast. I'm using the Epson Perfection V750 which also has 64 bit drivers available so I can scan using the Epson Scan utility. However, it's certainly a step backwards in workflow from Silverfast.
Any bite on a timeline for a 64bit version would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bob.

I just got a new 64bit Vista computer and a Epson V750-M on the way (has 64bit drivers). I don't own SilverFast, but would if it supported 64bit. I know a version comes with the scanner, but I don't know if that will work and I'm thinking of upgrading to Ai in any case.

I also am waiting for a 64 bit version of SilverFast for Vista. Can't use my Epson 4990 Photo without it.
I tell ya if Lasersoft doesn't come out with a Vista 64 bit version for the Epson 4990 Photo alot of people will be disappointed...
and disappointed people do not go back to the same manufacturer. (Hear that Lasersoft?)
