I am confused and frustrated

Hi

I've been using Silverfast with a Minolta 5400 for about a year. Yesterday the mechanism for moving the slide / negative mount jammed. I opened the scanner, freed it, and carried on.

The first scan from negative print came out with very dark hues.
The second scan got as far as the prescan and SF just hung. I restarted everything and it scanned, but on opening Elements 3, hung. Sometimes I would get a message saying the scanner could not be found.

This sort of thing happened a few times with me having to restart SF and / or the PC each time and finally it has got to:

I can start SF. I can preview a strip of negatives. I cannot make a preview of scan of anything- it just hangs with no error message.

If I uninstall and reinstall everything including the Minolta drivers, when I reinstall, do I have to use the minolta drivers or can I run the whole show just using silverfast and if, so do I need the TWAIN thing? (As you can tell, my technical knowledge is not too advanced).

I am running XP SP2.

Thanks

Matt

Make sure the SF prefs files were deleted as well. They might have gotten corrupted. SF will regenerate on startup.

you can also try the StandAlone SF utility to launch SF instead of the editing software.

Are you using the Twain version of SF ?

ANother possibility is the Twain files are corrupted. Search for *twain*, twunk, twain32 on the system and delete all the files/directories related to the scanner ( you may have other twain devices so don't delete everything).

It is good to re-boot after you do this.

OK. I've removed the perf files and Silverfast has started up OK.

I always start SF from the launcher v 2.1.3.

However, the scanner has just jammed again so I seem to have a physical fault too.

Will get that repaired an dthen look at the other issues.

Thanks for the help so far.
