Multi Exposure - why only in 48-bit mode?

Hi!
Why don't you provide multi exposure in 24 bit mode? At the moment I have to do a 48-bit-hdr scan and afterwards convert this scan to 24-bit.
in v**s**n multi-exposure is possible regardless of color-depth!
