Two SF versions in PS CS2

Hello.

I know this is user error, but I need some advice anyway! I had 6Ai 6.4xxx installed as a plug-in in PS, and it works fine. Purchased the upgrade today to 6.5, downloaded, entered the new unlock key, installed etc. All fine.

However, when I go to PS to scan ... File>Import> I have 2 options for the Scan - one which is for the 'old' 6.4xxx and the other for 6.5. Obviously the upgrade install didn't kick out the 6.4XX, and I can't seem to get it to go away.

I could live with this I guess, except at File>Import> both plug-ins are called >Silverfast (Epson) and you don't know which one you are getting until you load it in !!

I know it is surely my own confusion. I am also a new Mac user, so double trouble. What to do ?

Thanks

Not being a MAC user at all, I'd say to un-install 5.6, then install and un-install 6.4x and then do a clean install of 6.5

Hope this helps!

Still Working on the Problem

It seems like I cannot get rid of 6.4XXX entirely. I uninstalled, cleaned, installed, cleaned, restarted etc uninstalled, cleaned and then installed 6.5xx, but still get problems - including a 'crash' just after the v6.5 brings the file into CS2 PS.

I am going to fully revert to 6.4xx for a while until some of the bugs are out of 6.5. I paid for my upgrade, but I will wait a while to reinstall.

Thanks.

But did you ever find a solution to this???

Dear all,

of course there is a solution. Simply navigate to the photoshop folder:

win:

c/Programs/Adobe/Photoshop/plugins/import-export

Mac:

Mac/applications/Adobe Photoshop/Plugins/import-export

And delete all files and folder which name begins with "SilverFast" or "LaserSoft Imaging"

After that, one can navigate to the folder where SilverFast is installed and manually(right click) make a shortcut (alias in Mac) to the file "SilverFast(...).8ba" (SilverFast(...). plugin on a mac) and move that shortcut or alias to the directory of photoshop indicated above.

That should do it.

Cheers

Thanks Alejandro,

For your quick response to my reply and preempting exactly what i was going to say next...

I was only laughing because it was 2007 when this was posted and didn't expect any response from agripix! It wasn't intended as a remark on your excellent monitoring of this forum... sorry...

However, can i add an extra suggestion to your reply? Since i was having the same problem uninstalling a much older version of the Silverfast plug-in, which did not find my scanner and wasn't sure if it was relevant here...

On a Mac: (In the folder you mentioned)

Mac/applications/Adobe Photoshop/Plugins/import-export

After deleting all the files and folders, adding the alias etc... the second version still appeared in Ps! After further investigation i hit on the idea of looking inside the other plug-ins... By Control-Clicking the TWAIN plug-in and selecting "Show Package Contents" i found another Silverfast Folder containing an older version of the Plug-in, obviously relating to Twain or Scsi acquire? maybe?

After removing this folder and restarting Ps, only the working version remained and everything has been prefect since...

Hope this all makes sense and will be relevant to agripix...

Cheers

Dear Kirk,

Thanks for your contribution, I will have in mind the TWAIN folder to inform other people with similar problems.

2007 to 2011 !! :D

Anyway, yes, resolved after a LONG time - and only when I employed a third party software CleanMyMac, and my "guess" is that program was also able to find some hidden extra plug-in/file. Anyway, after that, great! BTW, it always worked - just annoying to have two options ...

And, I could not do without Silverfast !! It's the best.
