for a high-end peace of software, you are obviously not aware how much money is needed for a good development .

seems that critical topics are wiped out immediately!!!

my request "why should i pay AGAIN for update from 6.4 to 6.5, an update within same version-family" was competely overwritten. i bought 6.4 a couple of months ago, and was charged 30 bucks for interim update.

maybe you should remember that silverfast ai is a powerful scan-software but is and remains scan-software.
no need to take money for interim updates.

I just purchased my upgrade to version 6.5 and received a new serial # but can not find a link for the 6.5 download anywhere.
HELP!

Is v6.5 available for the Canon 9950F? If not, is there a time frame for this?

On this site you will get updates for your SilverFast versions. Within version 6 you are allowed to download all updates for free after having registered your serial number on our website.

FYI

For the Epson 4870 (one of the supposedly supported scanners), the multi-exposure feature does not function and the tech support response has been nil. Very disappointing to say the least. I suggest not buying until they have worked out all the bugs - don't pay them for you to do their beta testing.

Mr. Zahorsky, the directions are simple, I followed them. Multi-exposure does NOT work with my installation of even the newest version 6.5.0r3d for the Epson 4870. I have a typical windows xp environment with Photoshop CS. I am an experienced used. The feature is a great innovation which is why I purchased the new version. However, I do expect a working product or technical support beyond being told to follow simple directions. Refund please!

I have to echo jkrolick's post. I have 2 scanners supported by ME, a Nikon IV ED and a 4870. ME was working on the Epson yesterday in the standalone program. Now the ME button is stuck on 4 and can not be changed. Using import under PS 32 bit SF does not show the ME button option at all. Using the none 32 bit import ME is now also stuck on 4ME and can not be changed. As for the Nikon I could not get it working at all.
Now, as of today the Nikon will not be recognized in standalone mode but is found by import of PS.

Also, as jkolick said, the tech support time on responses is less than optimal. As an example, on 15 Dec I sent a report on updating to 644r7 and the Nikon not being recognized in standalone and stated that I had followed the FAQ on (re)installing SF. ON 19 Dec I get a response from tech telling me to delete the SF folder. If tech support knew their FAQs it would have been obvious that I had done the delete. I did the FAQ again and sent a detailed reply listing all actions I took that same day. Again on the 19th I received a request for the log file which I returned that day. No further communication since then.

In the mean time I paid for upgrades to 65 and I'm now stuck with buggy SW and no reply from LSI tech support on my ME problems either.

I think all we who have bought your software are well aware of the benefits and the usefulness of your software, however this discussion is not about the quality neither the price of SilverFast software - it is about if you will honour the business agreement you and your customer have. When I bought my software - SilverFast Ai Studio and HDR studio it was stated that all incremental updates/grades within version 6 are free of charge. It is rather disappointing that you change the business deal one way around. It could have been handled in several ways.
1) As in the agreement - updates free of charge
2) Charge for an optional feature like PhotoProof
3) A new version number 7

I am expecting an answer from you - clarifying why you have change the update policy and how the future update policy will be constructed? Will you charge for every update you are going to produce in the future?

Personally I am very aware of the cost of continues development of hard- and software as chief physician of a department of radiology (SilverFast software is used in my hobby as photographer)

and apparently no update needed since I am using the latest version of Silverfast! :o

As you can see the upgrade seem to be worth so much that it
is even more expensive than the regular version ;-)

or at least explain what you mean with "within your major version"? In my understanding major version is the first number in the version number.

SilverFast 6.5 UPGRADE & our Company policy

Dear Anders,

first of all regarding our Update policy, you must have overlooked that we have supplied for over 4 years more than 169 free updates (from V6.0 to 6.4.9) with numerous features that we have supplied for free! LaserSoft Imaging certainly represents a rare exception in the software industry today to give such a big amount of development to customers for free. Nevertheless we have to pay high quality scientists and engineers and without them we would not be the leading scanner software developer in the world!!!

Already with SilverFast 5.5 when we delivered the new NegaFix function, we explained the difference between an UPDATE and an UPGRADE and that we regard 5.5 as a major revision (as also ADOBE did).
Here now we have a major revision with powerful new features (after 169 free updates). So look at what we have delivered in reality and not at the semantics, instead compare what was regarded previously the best scanner software, LinoColor, which has had a price of over 2500 US$, while in the meantime SilverFast is regarded as so much more powerful and productive than LinoColor at a fraction of the price!

Think about why SilverFast is the only software that is bundled by so many scanner manufacturers world-wide? Devide the UPGRADE fee by all the features we have delivered since V6 over the time of 4 years - how many upgrades did ADOBE have and what have they charged!!!

So, I am sure you will agree that you want us to continue to make relevant inventions and develop powerful features, which is only possible with high quality developers, which only stay in a company with reasonable salaries.

So, I hope everyone can see the relationship and value of UPGRADES and the necessity for fees at certain times to deliver great software!

At this point I also want to thank every customer for his or her valuable input, whether it was criticism on bugs or ideas for new functions. We all do make mistakes, but we are open and ready to quickly correct what is not working properly. So please continue to share criticism and ideas with us in a constructive way!
