Will LaserSoft be supporting the new Mac Intel computers?

Since it's said that scanner drivers won't work running Rosetta translation on the new Intel Macs, will SilverFast be Universal code any time soon so we can migrate to the new machines and still use SilverFast?

Thanks.

I would also like to know if there will be an additional charge for people wanting to make this transition.

We are currently testing SilverFast on this new platform, using the Rosetta- emulation provided by the operating system. So far, Epson and Nikon scanners (USB and FireWire) seem to run flawlessly. It will be a while until we can offer true cross- platform code, and right now it is too early to say whether there will be an upgrade charge for this.

I picked up a 2.0 GHz MacBook Pro with 2 GB of memory about a week ago and can vouch that Silverfast Ai works great scanning from my Epson 4990 using the FireWire interface. 2400 dpi scans of 4x5s with ICE take about two hours, and the computer remains responsive the entire time. The application appears to be single threaded, as it never exceeds 100% CPU utilization.

I'd be happy to assist in beta testing universal binaries.

Cheers,

Andreas
