Very Dissappointed in SilverFast AI 6 so far

Tried to install SilverFast AI 6 v 6.4.3r6 on my machine for the 17th time again tonight. No success. When I launch SilverFast (either via Adobe PS CS2 or via the stand alone launcher) the program hangs .... 'Searching for Devices...' It cannot seem to find my Nikon Super CoolScan 5000. However the NikonScan 4.02 software can see it, and works just fine. Also, the scanner show up in the device manager as installed and working properly.
Makes me want to cry. I paid over $500 (US) for the SilverFast AI 6 studio software and provia ICC target. Useless at this point. My request for support has gone unanswered, and messages in this forum are ignored by SF support so far. Hope this gets a response.

seawolf,
This is the only scanner you have attached and turned on, correct?

Yes... and the software was installed and working fine initially. I have had this problem after I re-installed Silver Fast. Nothing on the machine was changed or updated between the working install and re-install.
Now, no matter how I install, Silverfast stops and locks up on start up 'searching for devices...' is displayed, but silverfast is locked up. Does not matter if I launch as a plug-in in adobe, or in standalone.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (including the Nikon Scan 4 software, and I do install the Nikon Scan software first) with the same result. I have tried the version of SF AI Studio 6 that I have on disk, as well as the downloaded and most updated version of SF AI Studio 6 that I have downloaded from this site.
Again the Nikon Scan software works fine, and the scanner is displayed and all looks good from the device manager.

Dear seawolf,
you can try one thing:
remove the file aspi32.sys (or e.g. move it to the Desktop) from the folder \windows\system32 and try to start SilverFast again (maybe a reboot is needed).
Is SilverFast able to find your scanner now?
Regards
Ralf

Have you examined your SilverFast log file to see if it gives any clues?

Yes. The clue is.... it cannot find the scanner hardware.

Has LaserSoft technical support taken a look at the problem yet?

One important thing to know with these
Nikon filmscanners is that if you use the filmstrip holder, film has to be inserted into the scanner before starting SilverFast. Otherwise, you will run into the "scanner not found" - error. However, this is not required when scanning slides with the single slide adapter, or the batch feeder.
