Multiscan sometimes fails to align scans

I recently upgraded to the Studio version in order to have access to the new multiscan feature for some of my darker slides showing too much noise in dark areas.
The multiscan feature works well - if it works.
More often than expected, the function fails to combine the scans and produces unusable images even if contrasting edges are in the picture which should allow to align the scans.
Retrying the scan does help sometimes, but not always.
I have analysed some of the bad scans and have found, that mainly (but not only) scans with a rotation between the scans failed alignment (see my example).
I have an Reflecta DigitDia 4000 which moves the slides out of the scanning path for recalibration (how can I prevent this during such a scan series ?).

Multisampling

Dear User,
some customers did report that multisampling fails sometimes,
therefore we started an inquiery on that issue, but most of the
issues we can't reproduce, anyways we will try several improvements on the algorithm.

I also noticed this multisampling bug.
I noticed this problem on 3 out of 24 scans. It seems that if an image *fails*, it is very likely that it will fail on a 2nd attempt. I just had an image that was succesfull at the third attempt, while other images can be scanned three times without an error.
Why is it that Silvescan uses a multi pass - multiscan, and not a single pass multiscan. v**s**n and Scangear do so, althoug I think v**s**n is not as effective as Silverfast.
Scanner: Canon 9950F, Silverfast V6.4.3.r.8, 4 passes
I am looking out for the update.

Dear Customer,
in our current implementation we can use Multisampling for EVERY
scanner, especially the old ones become a new worth with the multisampling feature.

For your information I experienced and have submitted a support request for a problem with multiscan in version 6.4.3r9 that results in the following error message on a Windows XP computer with an Epson 4990 scanner and Photoshop CS2.

we did some tests with up to 16x Multisampling,
Epson 4990 under XP and Photoshop
CS2 without any problems.
Please delete your prefs and try again.

...and how did you clear your prefs? maybe it solves my problems too...

Two things; first I cleared the Prefs from my Windows XP OS by deleting them from C:\Documents and Settings\
[your logon name]\Application Data\Lasersoft Imaging\SilverFast\Prefs and secondly I must report the problem returned later in the day.
I sent a reply email to technical support letting them know the problem returned and will let this forum know the ultimate resolution.
