File naming with Job Manager

hi.

how do I use the File Naming functions with Job Manager?

I have many images in my queue and I'd like to:

(a) set the base name in the File Name field of the main window so that every image has its own base name, and then

(b) use the File Naming functionality in Output Settings to add generic text to the end of the file names: eg, <base name> + "_480x320".

an image whose name was "water_well" would be named "water_well_480x320.jpg" while the next item in the queue whose name was "blue_skies" would be named "blue_skies_480x320.jpg".

I'm using SF HDR Studio.

regards,
Gregory

Dear Gregory

in the "output options" of the SilverFast JobManager, you want to check the box "ignore existing frame names".

ok. understood.

for the time being then, it's not possible to combine the File Name field with the File Naming utility?

Gregory

Dear Gregory

I am sorry, but I fail to understand: Either you want to give the images individual names or the automatic naming facility.
What is it, you'd want to achieve? Please enlarge on this a bit so I may better understand. Thanks in advance.

the first three images in my current real life queue are named:

fishing_boats
rocky_alcove
fishing_boat

when I run the job, I'd like to use File Naming to:
add a "indo1_" prefix to the names,
add a "_480x320" suffix to the names.

I need three sets of images at different sizes. for the second set, I change the size of the first image to 750x500 and copy the scale to the other images. I then re-run the job but this time change the File Naming to:
add a "indo1_" prefix to the names,
add a "_750x500" suffix to the names.

in this way, I don't have to rename every image in the queue manually.

of course, I realise now that this is probably not necessary. I could do all of the extra renaming in the Finder using one of the renaming utilities I have. if I had three jobs, I'd just be sure to point each of them to different destination folders and everything would be fine.

I apologise for confusing things and making something simple into something difficult.

regards,
Gregory

Dear Greg

You can not do so yet in the JobManager directly.
However, the file renaming of the VLT will let you have that.

First, process the images in the JobManager as
fishing_boats
rocky_alcove
fishing_boat

Then open the VLT, locate and mark the image files.
Choose "rename selected" from the context menu.
Experiment with the options given in the dialogue and examine the entries generated for the export mode.

Finally, you will find that e.g.
%nWindo1_%oN20%nW_480x320_%Ix04-1-01
will generate
indo1_fishing_boats_480x320_0001.tif
indo1_rocky_alcove_480x320_0002.tif
indo1_fishing_boat_480x320_0003.tif

Have fun experimenting with the possibilities
