Is descreening working properly in AI 6.4.2rd?

Postby Harry Putnam » Thu Nov 10, 2005 6:36 pm

I am seeing a recuring problem attempting to use the descreening filter in AI.

I am a new user so may well be operator error:

I have the frame at high magnification and then try to employ the descreening filter (no unsharp involved). Press prescan and get the little box wanting me to select an area to detect.

After the detection I get a message telling me it failed to detect and to try a more uniform area. Doesn't seem to matter what area is selected I get the same failure.

When I click ok on the failure message the scan appears in the descreening dialog and appears to be descreened in the before after images.

However if I click ok to close the dialog no changes occur in the frame.

What is going on here?

Dear Harry

was this problem solved by <a href="http://www.silverfast.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14158#14158">deleting the prefs</a>, too?

Best regards

For a time yes. As you know I'm sure, deleting the prefs provides a new clean start. However I see repeated reference to the need to delete prefs throught this forum and others here. It appears to be a constant problem.

So what is the source problem? Why do prefs get corrupted so easily or often?

Each problem I've stumbled across required me to delete prefs. Is it known what kinds of things to avoid doing so as not to corrupt the prefs files? What actually happens to prefs files that require them to be deleted? Can prefs file be edited ... maybe with binary editor.

What kind of things would one look for inside prefs as a problem?

Descreening

Postby LSI_Marquardt » Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:33 pm

Well, the detection of the screen frequency
works well on half toned images in homogene
areas (without image details or edges) of
a mid tone luminance. Of course it works on half toned
(screened) images only!
The descreening itself will be applied AFTER
scanning, so there is no preview
in the prescan, but the before/after preview
in the dialog.
There were a bug issue in the past,
please up date to the most recent version.
