LaserSoft Imaging

Ever since I've updated my SilverFast Ai for the Epson 1600 to 6.4.2r5d (EpsonIT8) descreening occurs after the scan is completed. It now can take several minutes for the software to descreen the image. Before the update the descreening occurred as the image was being scanned, with no additional wait time for this action. I like the automatic screen detection in the update but not the frustrating added wait time. Is there something wrong with the update or with the way I'm using the software?

well, the automatic needs to calculate the screen and has an improved method the descreen back into gradients. However, with all new algorithms, luckily there's room still for other improvements, like e.g. runtime. Stay tuned...

Has this been addressed yet?

I'm working with a customer that used Linocolor with their Hiedelburg scanner under OS 9, which produced great output quickly. With SilverFast Ai, the wait for the descreening process is so long that she's gone back to the OS 9 machine. Without the descreening turned on, the image quality is much worse than with Linocolor (and unusable for their purposes).

If there is a different way to approach this or set things up, I'd love to know. The long wait is currently the deal breaker in moving to OS X. And as we all know, OS 9 is not getting any younger.

I posted the original message about the slow descreening function. I was using OS 9 on a 450 Mz G3. I'm now using an 800 Mz G4 running OS 10.3.9 with fast results. I'm pleased with the speed results now.

Dear Customers,

well , the new descreening is not available on OS9.
On OSX an altivec optimization is used which should speed
up the descreening if you have a modern Mac.
