A frame management in Silver fast is pratically absent. To set up and use a set of frames is a long and boring operation. I suggest:

1) possibility to save different frame sets;
2) use text format to save and load frame sets. This will allow to modify or create very quicly different very precise frame sets with a simple text editor (the same method is already used for color correction settings);
3) enable to save the each frame with its settins. For istance automatic or manual (fixed esposure). Up to now, one have to select each frame to set the automatic esposure. This is quite crazy.
4) allow multiple frame selection (to move, allign, set exposure and other settings on multiple frames).
5) allow to get the esposure from a frame (or a part of a frame and tranfer it on other frames. The problem: now if i set the frame larger than the image, the automatic exposure take in to account the external margin of the frame (black or white in general) and it false the automatic esposure. For istance, this make impossible to use automatic esposure on a strip.
6) allow grid allignment on frames.
7) allow duplication of frames.
:cool: allow moving frames by arrows
9) allow the locking of the scan order of the frames in batch mode. Now it depends by the order of the last selection of the frames. This make impossible to automatically retrieve the images in film order on the scanned files.
10) allow automatic (progressive) naming of frames (and order batch scanning following this naming).

SilverFast's powerful and easy Frame Management not seen

All these comments are documented in the latest SilverFast manual PDF (under download).

1. Saving different frame sets
SilverFast allows to save any number and combination of frames. Under the "General" panel click on Frame-Set and save the current frames with all their individual settings and reload them later.

2. Use text formats to save and load frame sets
can be done as described above!

3. Save frame settings
Under "Settings" you can save the individual settings within one frame and reload later. Exposure is, as experience has shown, a more general function and manual exposure something that is rarely being used. This is the 1st request to make exposure a "frame function"!

4. Multiple Frame Selection
The SilverFast JobManager allows to allocate functions to a chosen set of frames (read JobManager manual pdf).
Moving a whole set of frames has not been requested so far, but could be considered!

5. Exposure and frame border

SilverFast 5.5 has an "Auto Frame Inset" function, where you can define how much from the farme border to the inside of the image (in percentage of image dimension) the auto-adjust will start reading the image data (Read manual PDF page 39 under "Auto-Defaults".

6. Grid Alignment of Frames
Nice feature for the future!

7. Duplication of Frames
Easy Job! Press "Alt" or "Option", click on the frame, hold and move to location you want to copy the frame to! (manual page 60).

8. Moving frames by arrow keys
Nice feature for future!

9. Locking of Scan-Order
SilverFast JobManager takes care of that!

10. Automatic progressive naming of frames
SilverFast JobManager takes care of that!

Future proposals
We appreciate your engagement, but in order not to waste any efforts I recommend to read the manual pdfs and Ian Lyons tutorials carefully!
