Locking Auto-adjust

I'm looking for a way to lock the image auto-adjust settings. I want to scan a sheet of negatives in one pass, and putting a frame around the whole sheet results in a poor colour balance from the auto-adjust. Is there a way I can put a frame on one negative to get the colour balance I want to apply to the whole sheet, then "lock" the auto-adjust and reset my frame to the whole sheet? Suggestions of any other way to achieve this would also be great!

I think this will work. you'll have to try to be sure.

on the 'balanced' image, do the auto-adjust, make any further adjustments you like, then save the settings in Settings.

for the other images, don't use Auto-Adjust; just use the new setting. if you're using Job Manager, that would mean choosing the setting as you add the images to the JM queue and turning off Automatic Adjustment. if you're using batch scanning of film, that would mean choosing the new setting before running the batch. it might also require turning off Auto-Adjust by turning off "Automatic when opening image" in Options/Auto.

if you're batch scanning by using multiple frames on the same scanning bed, your best bet is to set the exposure and colour settings for the first 'balanced' frame and then copy the frame to the other images on the bed. there are two ways you could do this: (a) select the frame and then option-drag it to the image you want to frame. this will duplicate the original frame. you will then need to rename the Output file name for the second frame and reposition it. (b) draw frames around the other images. don't worry about their settings. then select the first original frame and option-click *on* the other frames. this will copy the settings of the original frame to the clicked frames.

(we used to be able to select a frame and then option (or control or command) click outside of it to duplicate it but I wasn't able to do that a couple of seconds ago when verifying the process.)

Thanks for the tips - I seem to have got it working now. Saving the settings with a frame on one picture and then applying the setting to the frame of the whole neg sheet works. The only "bug" in this procedure (which was confusing me) is that the setting doesn't get applied properly to the preview window... the contrast changes slightly but the colour balance is way off. The scanned image looks as it should, however. By the way, I don't have an "Automatic when opening image" setting in my Silverfast (Ai v6.4.1r4b). Is this a setting in HDR? How, if at all, can Auto-adjust be turned off in Ai?
