SilverFast Multi-Scan / Multi-Sampling Epson Expression 1680
SilverFast
Ai supplies Multi-Sampling for most
Epson scanners. The function is activated by clicking onto the Multi-Sampling icon indicating a "1". With each click you can toggle to the next Multi-Sampling stage which will be 2, 4, 8, 16.
More samples will reduce more noise but the trade off is that it takes more time.
Noise from the CCD is randomly distributed in scans and especially visible in darker areas of the scan.

Mr. President is right, it takes longer, but you'll find yourself using it once in a while because the quality is much greater, especially in the shadows. 95%, I leave it off, though, on my Epson 1600.

I doubt there's much benefit to be gained beyond 4x sampling, which already takes about 4 times longer to perform than a single scan. Couldn't check 8x, since, curiously, my SF v5.2 for Nikon doesn't offer this option, but 16x is most certainly an overkill, that only subjects the scanner to unjustified wear and tear.

Thanks for the help. Mine had crept up to 16 and couldn't find help in the help files.

why is it that the sprint scan seems have more bit depth informationin terms of dark areas as compared to ls2000???as even though the sprintscan does not seem to deliver enough bit depth in darker areas?
