Hello,

Just a quick overview of my situation - have been using LinoColor 5 and 6 for a long time on OS9 to drive the above mentioned Linotype S3300 (rather old drum scanner for those that don't know ).

Am getting to a stage where all our other machines in the company have been moved to OSX, and I am getting pressured to upgrade my machine too.


The one sticking point is Linocolor. I do understand that OS9 applications can run within OSX, but it seems that upon trying to set up Linocolor on another OSX based machine - for some reason the Linocolor OS9 Installer just wouldn't run.


Anyway - I was sure I had been told in the past that there was a version of Linocolor available for OSX. However, after much searching for updates or information of any kind - I have come to the conclusion that the version 6.0.10 / OS9 seems to be the last one available?


During my search for Linocolor updates I became aware of the SilverFast software - with many comments pointing to SilverFast being much better than Linocolor ever was - not to mention the fact it also runs natively is OSX, is still actively supported, etc.

I straight away came to this site, saw demos available and went about downloading one.

However, I was quite disappointed to not see the scanner I use under the manufacturers listing.


Is the Linotype S3300 actually supported in the full version of SilverFast?

If so, is there anyway I can obtain the Linotype S3300 version of the SilverFast demo?

thank you for your interest in LaserSoft Imaging's software products.
However, the scanner you are interested is not supported right now.

You'll always find up-to-date information which scanners are supported by SilverFast scanning software on our website: http://www.silverfast.com/product/en.html

OK - Thanks for the reply.

But just to clarify - seeing as this scanner is quite old and you don't currently support it - would I be wrong to assume that the chances of it ever being supported are quite slim?

I am really trying hard to look for OSX alternatives to Linocolor to drive this scanner, but there doesn't seem to be much out there other than your software - as it seems most people that used to use Linocolor / OS9 are now using SilverFast / OSX...

SilverFast for Hell Chromagraph 3300

Dear Michael,

we are currently working with Heidelberger to be able to adapt SilverFast OS-X to the family of Linotype-Hell / Heidelberger scanners.

Until then, it is recommended to scan into 48bit TIFF with your current software and do all corrections with SilverFast HDR STUDIO under OS-X.

We have several customers who found that very productive and convenient.
