SilverFast Ai 6 does not scan in Photoshop CS

Hello. I purchased an epson 4870 scanner and got the SilverFast Ai 6 with it. I have a problem. I can bring up SilverFast in Photoshop CS and use the software but when I am finished and hit scan it crashes. It shuts down and Photoshop shuts down. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing to no avail. I did make sure before reinstalling that all files for silverfast were deleted, including within Photoshop plug in files on the harddrive. I also run Windows XP if that makes any difference. Another problem is if I try to just launch SilverFast by itself the start up menu/launcher wants me to choose the plug in folder, and I have no idea on how to do that. I am so frustrated any help would be great.

Well, I was able to figure out how to launch Silverfast outside of photoshop but the same problem exists, when I hit scan the program shuts down.

Well, I went and registered and saw that I could download an updated version. So after uninstalling the one I got with my scanner and installed the latest version everything seems to be working now. Not sure what the deal was with the one I had.

I have the same problem.
I finally just gave-up and now I just launch Silverfast by itself
rather than scanning from within PhotoShop CS
I am PC based using Win 2000 Pro with a Microtek 9800XL scanner.

I am going to be installing the Ai upgrade right now,
so maybe the problem will be eliminated.

Now a bigger problem

Well, I have just installed the newest version of Ai and
now it does not work at all ~ my PC locks up, I cannot even
use task manager to evade the WIN lock-up.
I have sent a message to LaserSoft support with the details
of the problem.

It has been determined, with the help of Martin at Lasersoft Tech Support,
that my FireWire connection is causing the Ai software to lock-up.
I am able to connect with a USB connection and that works fine.
So, this may be a newly discovered "issue" with FireWire and Ai software.
Thanks Martin, for your response and accurate diagnosis to my problem.
