Scanner Profiling with Silverfast

Postby tdkdesign » Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:52 am

Can I profile the Minolta 5400 Scan Elite with Silverfast 6 and various transmissive targets as an alternative to using a program such as Gretag Macbeth Publisher or Monaco Profiler. I would prefer to not make that kind of investment. I perceive on various forums that Silverfast has this sort of capability, but before I take the plunge on the scanner and Silverfast, I would like to make sure this part of the workflow is covered with the software and I won't end up disappointed and spending money twice for the same solution. Thanks!

Dear tdkdesign,

we have a full almost automated IT8 calibration feature which can be bought optional.

To get more information how the IT8 calibration works look at these documents, please :

Where would I find information about the optional nearly fully automated IT8 calibration feature for Silverfast 6 that you mention?

Dear tdkdesign,

fully automated means to me : you don't need to put in special settings - you just start the calibration and the only thing you need to do is placing the frame on the target.

- did you try my above mentioned links ?

And tell me please, you are asking for certain material you want to calibrate with - but this sounds a litte bit like negative material ? Am I wrong ?

kind regards

Almost Automated Calibration

Postby tdkdesign » Wed Nov 10, 2004 5:22 am

Sorry, I meant to use your language "almost fully automated".. Actually, I was just trying to get you to tell me what your optional or add on product was (still don't know) that you were referring to in a previous response.

I did try and print all of your links.

My motive in asking about the Fuji 35mm transmissive targets was in response to a note on Lasersofts site that states that Fuji Provia targets are temporarily unavailable. You can see this in green type by going to the area on your site where one can order IT8 targets. So, I was simply asking if Lasersoft had any future plans to supply them at all (ever).

Since most people that want to do a thorough job of color management would at least consider matching a target to an emulsion (i.e. using a Fuji Velvia taret to calibrate for scanning Fuji Velvia slides) I was just asking if Lasersoft planned to offer other transmissive 35mm IT8 targets other than the Provia one that is temporarily unavailable.

Dear tdkdesign,

I think we will stay with the material, but we don't have any supplying problems so feel free to order :D
