IT8 calibration produces off-color casts.

Hello Lasersoft Imaging,

I've been having troubles with slides scanned using your IT8 calibration. Basically I seem to be getting off-color casts on some scans, particularly in shadow areas. I did a couple of scans both with and without calibration and the problem is quite apparant with calibration activated. Looking on your forum I saw some other posts about this problem.

Is Lasersoft acknowledging internally that there is a problem that needs remedy or do you feel otherwise? Is Lasersoft working on a solution and do you have any timing for a release that solves the problem? Also, can you recommend any alternatives for doing scanner calibrations (I have a polaroid 4000 plus) using a third party product that will work inside of Silverfast? I really love this software and have been spending quite a bit of time learning how to use it, but this problem really is disturbing. Considering the purpose of Silverfast, enabling the creation of the highest caliber scans possible, I'd think this problem would get a very high priority at the company.

Of course if somehow I've just messed up on my side please let me know, but while I'm new to scanning and digital photography I'm usually pretty careful and thorough. If you find it helpful I could try and send example images to you.

Finally, will different slide targets make a difference? I am using the Kodak Ektachrome target you supplied with your software bundled with my scanner # E011023.

Sincerely,

Jeff Mangin

Dear Jeff

thank you for asking to re-check scanning results.
I would very much like to process this issue to our internal testing center.

Please assist me in this matter sending us the SF_Logfile and the SF Statistics. The SF_Logfile is generated on starting up SilverFast and placed on your desktop if you keep pressed the CTRL key during a SilverFast launch.
The SF Statistics is generated from the expert dialogue (rightmost button on the main dialogue, there you want to click the icon looking like a text file.
You can describe your troubles in the problem report on:
https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html
and copy-paste the two text files into your report.

Thank you very much in advance for your co-operation.

Every ICC/ICM compatible profile can be used with SilverFast, regardless of which software it originates.

Changing ICC / ICM profiles in SilverFast 6 Ai is quite easy.
In the settings window (the smaller one displayed on the left hand side) you change to the "General" tab, then please click on the "Options..." button.
The options dialog has a tab called "CMS".
There you shall find many possibilities to fine tune your color management system workflow.

SilverFast 6 Ai does display the profiles it finds in the following paths:
on Windows NT/2000/XP => C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
on Mac OS X => /Library/ColorSync/Profiles

If you want to add a profile, please copy it to those locations.

Kind regards

Processing calibration color cast problem

Dear Sonny,

I am happy to comply. However I am unable to post attachments into this type of e-mail system. If you know of a way let me know, otherwise I will need an e-mail address to send a regular outlook e-mail with attachement. The only other alternative is to post the entire text log into the e-mail space I am typing into now.

Also, I cannot locate in the sf statistics in expert dialogue any copyable file other than apparantly identical sf log.

Dear Jeff

no problem. Though I am rather reluctant to post email addresses (because of spam spiders), please simply send me a normal prob report.

If I need them for supporting purposes, I shall send a reply email anyway asking for these files.

Thanks in advance,
Sonny Noack
