ICE V in 6.2.1r5 - what is it?

I just installed 6.2.1r5 and noticed that ICE now has two options, and the second option has a very small, and hard to read, roman numeral 5.

Can someone explain what it does?

Thanks,
John

If it is a Nikon, you have "regular" and "fine" modes now.

Thanks Frank! Yes a Nikon 5000. Is there any documentation online that I can read about it?

If not, what is the difference? I assume the previous versions were regular? I was hoping for Kodachrome/B&W ICE!

Thanks again,
John

THe difference is the same as with NikonScan. Seems to get closer to completely eliminating minor and major defects, although it can soften the image a bit more.

ICE does work on KC, but it depends on how much silver was left on the film. i have scanned 2k+ KCs and about 5-10 % had problems. ICE will not work with silver based B&W. Chromagenic, yes. Try the most recent Kodak B&W film that are labeled chromagenic if you want to use ICE. Otherwise, use SRD or something similar.

Thanks Frank,

Here's the reply I just got from tech support:

Dear John,

the number should actually be a 2. ICE has now 2 intensities, the regular one, and II, a stronger one.

I'm just scanning my archives of film. I've been shooting all digital with a Canon 1Ds for 1.5 years and it's sheer joy compared to digitizing film!

Best regards,
John
