Uninstall SF before installing update?

Do I need to uninstall SF v 6.2.0r9 before installing update v 6.2.1r5? tia.

not necessarily, but it may help. Sometimes the update installer does for whatever reason _not_ overwrite all older files. This can lead to functionality problems.
So you might want to de-install your "old" SilverFast before installing the latest version on your system.
complete uninstall procedure under Win OS
First you want to de-install the software as usual from the control panel, via the software icon.
Then please delete the folders (if present on your system):
/Program files/SilverFast Application
/Program files/LaserSoft
/Program files/Adobe/Photoshop/Plugins/Import-Export/SilverFast(xxx)
/Documents and Settings/(your username)/Application Data/LaserSoft Imaging
/Windows/twain_32/LaserSoft
Now you can run the update (reboot not necessary inbetween).
The update installation procedure is finished by rebooting your system.

Mac OS X does not yet offer uninstall routines. Simply navigate to the folder SilverFast was installed into and remove the files and folders named SilverFast and LaserSoft.
These could be located in:
/Applications/LaserSoft
/Applications/SilverFast Application
/Applications/Photoshop/Plugins/Import-Export/
/User/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging/
