Greetings ... I recently acquired the Silverfast A1 for my Epson 4870 scanner, and also have an IT8 target from my previous Expression 1600 Silverfast Ai. What do I need to enable the calibration facility. Do I need to buy additional softtware? Please advise.

Dear artistic_enigma.

Thanks for the interest in our software. In SilverFast for your Expression 1600 the IT8 calibration was standard. In case of the 4870 it is optional with the benefit of being able to upgrade to the full range of SilverFast Highlights (please review --> https://www.silverfast.com/show/compare-ai-vs-se/en.html) for a lower price. The downside is that you will need to purchase the add-on in order to activate.

Please keep in mind that the price for the update includes a new genuine LaserSoft IT8 target since targets older than 2 years are not appropriate for calibration. Our targets feature a barcode imprinted which ensures the automatic selection of the according reference file.

Kind regards.

Hmm, sounds reasonable but never gave it a thought. Does this mean that my four years old, and pricey, Ektachrome target has long since expired despite being carefully archived?

Dear Tomaz Klinc.

Generally the colors will dye out in time and the difference between measurement and reference will increase which leads to more inaccurate profiles. If you like you may provide the profile to http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html as an attachment and I will send you a dE Report.

Kind regards.
