File naming

How would I set up the preferences so that when I scan an image in file mode the output file does not overwrite existing files with the same name?
In batch mode there seem to be the option to append a number to make
the file unique, but this option seems to be missing for single files.

Dear Robert,

If I understand you correctly, you achieve that as explained below:

Manually (in file mode):
1. change the name of the frame in the frame tab on the main dialogue
2. or change the name in the "Save" dialogue after clicking on the Scan button

Nothing is done automatically in these cases. In fact, SF does not differ from most other programmes when it comes to saving a single file.

You suggest that a digit could be appended automatically to the frame name after each scan. This feature request will be discussed at LaserSoft Imaging.

The JobManager enables this among other features.

In single file mode the frame name is used for output each time
and so existing files are overwritten (apparently unless the frame is
named "untitled".
In batch file mode the frame name is also used even though a save
dialog box appears with a option about numbering files. As long as
the frame is not named untitled the output file name and numbering is
ignored as well. This doesn't seem to make sense. Why present an
option to specify an output name as number if it is going to be ignored?
Both v**s**n and the Epson scan do auto numbering on output.
You should do something similar..

from memory, you can use Batch Mode even if you are only scanning one image. in such a case, the serial number is appended to the name you specify in the Frame panel. so:

1. turn on Batch Mode
2. make sure that you only specify one frame (multiple frames apparently don't get the number appended to their name)
3. click Scan (or press Return)
4. make sure that Reset Number is turned off
5. click OK (or press Return)
