Options in Twain vs PS Plug-in

Good Afternoon,

My new scanner arrived today and with it, the appropriate version of SF Ai6. I installed the PS plug-in and Twain programs just as I had with the previous scanner version.

I have always had very different options selected for the PS plug-in and twain versions as I use them for very different purposes. But with the new installation, the options seem to track in both versions.

I use the twain version primarily with my profiling software that wants no scanner corrections applied. With the plug-in, I take full advantage of the program's ability to imbed icc profiles in the scan.

Is this a new "feature" an idiosyncrasy of my system or the new scanner version?

SF 6.2.0r4 running under Windows 2000 pro on a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4.
1 GB ram. Lots of hard drive space.
Photoshop version 6.01
Microtek Artixscan 1800f. It replaced a Scanmaker 5.

Thank You.

Dear GButch

we found that some customers complained about "changing settings" which really meant that the plug-ins 'remembered' their own options sets.
To let these people more comfortably work with SilverFast we converged the behaviour when two plug-ins of different type are installed.

However, reading your posting I cannot help thinking how SilverFast can be expected to work should lie in the end-users hands.

What would you think about a checkbox in "options": "use same settings for PS plug-in and TWAIN plug-in (y/n)"?

Thank you for the quick response. I was concerned that I had some sort of instalation error.

Your suggestion of offering the user a choice in selecting how the options are applied would suit my needs and the needs of those who want them to track.

Dear GButch,

I'll put in a feature request for the TWAIN settings to our developers. There might be some internal reasons why different settings are kept for each plugin type. An example is color management... Photoshop allows profile to profile passing from SilverFast to Photoshop. TWAIN doesn't support this.

Aside from this one possible quirk, we now keep our settings in a central location, which should make it easier to share preferences between plugin types.

Here's a thought that crossed my mind this afternoon. What if there were a way to save and recall multiple sets of option set-ups. The program already does this for most of the image adjustment settings.

That way, one could simply load the option settings that were appropriate to the current operation.
