Problem with Elements

Hello, I tried searching the forums and FAQ but didn't find anything relevant to my problem.
After briefing working fine, Elements 2.0 now crashes and dumps me back to Windows during batch scans with more than 2 frames using Silverfast AI 6.1.0r8 with my Epson 3200. An attempt to rescan results in a "scanner not found" message. The computer must be rebooted for the scanner to be seen again. I haven't noticed the problem with single frame scans.
I un/reinstalled Elements, and now under File-Import in addition to the "Silverfast (Epson)" plugin I always had, there is now a "Silverfast Epson (32 Bit)" option. I still crash if I use the original "Silverfast (Epson)" option, but everything seems to work fine using the new "Silverfast Epson (32 Bit)" option, although when using this option the Silverfast version displayed is 6.1.0r5 and my scanner is now called an Epson GT-9800.
Any idea what's going on? Using a 1.6ghz P4, 512mB RAM, Windows XP.
