SilverFast PlugIn Hangs on Large Scans in PS7

I am attempting to scan a 4x5 inch color transparency at 2400 dpi 1:1 in 48 bit. The resulting file is >500Mb. When I attempt to scan the piece, Photoshop simply hangs and nothing happens.

I routinely scan 4x5 inch B/W negatives at 16 bit ~ 180 Mb files, with no problem.

I have a G4 Mac with 1 Gb of RAM and I have configured a fast scratch disk with plenty of room.

I can't get the standalone Silverfast application to work at all.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do get these big 48 bit color scans?
Thanks.

Firewire or USB.

I've got the same problem. My system is a G4 single 450 MHZ, 1024 MB RAM and so on, with Mac Os X 10.2.6 installed, Photoshop 7 and Silverfast SE 6.01r7 version (i think it's the right one). My scanner is an Epson 3200.

I've made some 35 mm film scans at 3200 dpi with succes but no way with a 4"x5". Photoshop freezes. I've tried to let it work for several minutes (maybe an hour) with no succes.

Witch interface are you using, Firewire or USB?

In my opinion i get the error when working with USB 1.1 interface. I've not tried with firewire interface (I couldn't buy the cable with the lenght that I need, sorry).

Another thing to tell is that actually I'm getting better results with Epson Scan software. I know Silverfast has more functions and so on, but what everybody finally do is to adjust image in photoshop, so adding special functions in order to achieve better image is useless, because final image is has too much contrast to be adjusted properly. I'll post some tests in epson 3200 forum...
