flowers with purple petals and green background

I am currently using Epson Perfection 3170 to archive slides and transparencies. This did not come with Silverfast Ai. Problems I am having using the Epson scanning software include two main ones:
1. When I scan flower scenes with deep green background and purple petals the scanner interprets the purple as blue, necessitating manipulation in photoshop. The Epson scanning software that came with the 3170 seems incapable of letting me make the necessary adjustments on the pre-scan side. What about Silverfast Ai?
2. The 3170 has difficulty recognizing numbers in transparencies. Example, an image of a town square with a clock tower. Some of the numbers on the clock face register very very faint while the others come through normal. Would Silverfast Ai give me control to adjust for this so the numbers will scan?

I would like to know the abilities and limitations of the Ai program before I decide to purchase.
Thanks for your help.

1)AI's selective color correction will allow you to do that. You may also just be weak in the reds or too strong in the green. Try boosting the red curve and/or reducing the green curve in the area of the RGB values for the flowers in the epson scan software. ( i assume that capability exists) Does the epson scan software have a hue correction ? You could try that. IT-8 calibration may also help.

2) you may be near the optical resolving capability of the scanner . Does this change if you change the position of the slide ? or turn it 90 degrees ?

It does not appear that SF supports the 3170 yet based on the web site.
