LaserSoft Imaging

Hello!

I?m using SilverFast Ai 6 bundled with my EPSON Perfection 3200 flatbed scanner since the end of September. Only lately (a new user) I?m starting to notice some imperfections, caused probably by my own ignorance. Your remedy would be greatly appreciated:

1/ B&W NEGATIVES - DEEP SHADOW AREAS DO NOT PRINT BLACK

Deep shadow areas do not appear to be truly black when I scan B&W negs. Rather, they print gray and muddy, reminding me a bad solarization effect (my monitor is calibrated).

Image Auto-Adjust button does not always function (wrong settings?)

When I scan the very same image on another scanner without SilverFast, scans are fine.


2/ REFLECTIVE SCANNING ? TOO MUCH SATURATION

Today, I tried to scan a color photograph from our family album ? medium contrast. SilverFast again did not optimize the picture. Especially green and yellow colors were totally overblown. I had to bypass your SW and use TWAIN driver instead to complete the scan.

By the way, is there any reset button to return everything to your factory preset?


3/ CMS

Sometimes, ignorance is blessing?

I wonder what CMS values would you recommend for these three applications:

A - B&W negs, medium format
B - Fuji Provia slide film
C - Reflective scanning (copies of old color photographs)

I apologize for lots of questions and lack of skills ? but we usually learn from fixing mistakes, don?t we???

Please do not bother to ask as many questions as you wish here. This is the perfect location for it.
I would like to start answering your questions from the end with the correct setting in the CMS options. These settings have a major influence on the results of your other questions.
Except for the B&W negatives you will need individually created icc-profiles for each scanning purpose - transparent and reflective mode.
In case of the B&W negatives chosse a generic grey profile that suits you best.

By the way, is there any reset button to return everything to your factory preset?

Yes there is! Hold down the Shift+STRG keys (Win) or just the Shift key for a Reset all.

Do not hesitate any further questions as I will be monitoring this post. Since the above settings are so essential I will wait for the results with it.
