Best way to lighten selected areas of a face in shadow?

What would be the best way to lighten selected shadowed areas of a face using Silverfast? I?ve tried the color selection tool and a mask, but can?t seem to increase dark areas enough. Do I need to use PS7 for this function instead or is there a way to mask an area and use the curves tool?
Thank you.
Ken

Dear kmlevine.
Actually you are going the right way, but before editing the curves I would verify a few more details:
- use the full dynamic range available from the scanner --> 48-bit
- set appropiate white/black point manually
- check and edit the histogramm before scanning
The idea is to get the possibly best scan before playing with the curves in Photoshop.
Kind regards.

Dear Rossee,
I already scan to HDR and get excellent scans.
What I'm trying to do is create a mask and use the histograph or curve tools only on the face. IS this possible in silverfsat? or only with Photoshop 7?
Thanks for your help.
Best Wishes,
Ken

Dear Ken.
Masks are used in the selective color correction and SRD only. The histogram and curves are applied to the entire frame.
