I'm scanning a whole ancient book with silver fast AI 5 and Photoshop 7, but Silver Fast always give the same name (the frame's one) to the files without adding serial number so I have to rename all the files when I want to save them in order. Do you know how I could do to have automatical serial number on my files ?
Thank you.

in v6, I use the following routine.

set Scan Mode to Batch Mode (File).

wrong
delete the frame name from the frame name field. the entry should read <Untitled frame>. if not so, SF will use the specified name every time without any serial number adjustments. on the other hand, if the field is empty, SF will use the name in the Save dialog, adding the serial number each time.

correct
to use automatic Counters, you must turn on Batch Mode and you must specify a file name in the Name field in the Frame panel. do not specify a file extension. SF will do that for you automatically according to the file type you choose when you scan the images.

so, to name all of your images "Fred's party xxxx.jpg", type "Fred's party " (note the trailing space) in the Name field and choose JPEG as the file type. SF will automatically append the counter to the file name and then append the jpg extension.

automatic Counter also works even if you only scan one image at a time. I am currently scanning 4-frame strips of film. for the first strip, I set the file name in the Name field of the Frame panel. after clicking the Scan button, the Save dialog appears. I reset the Counter to 1 and make sure that the "Reset counter every batch" checkbox is unchecked. I then scan the images. for the second strip, I do nothing to the file name or to the counter. everything is ready to go. the only time I have to change the counter is when I've cancelled a scan. at these times, I have to decrease the counter by 1 to 'synchronise' it with my film again.
