Cross upgrade

Postby theo » Mon Apr 28, 2003 5:49 pm

It would be good (and a good support for loyal customers) if LaserSoft
would provide the possibility for crossupgrades.

This means to upgrade from one SF variant to another.

E.g. SF Ai for Epson 2450 to SF Ai for Epson 3200.
Or. Ai to HDR

Special customers who change their equipment more frequent
would not have to pay alway the full fee. A multi licence rabate
is not a replacement for this.

I know that all Ai versions are special adapted for the scanner type
but a large amount of the program is common. So why do you not
value your customers who supported you already before by
purchasing another version/variant.

crossover or 2-scanner price break

Postby gildeusa » Tue Jul 08, 2003 7:36 am

What about a high degree of service to software purchaser with a fair price break when Silverfast is to be used on one computer, but both flatbed (Linocolor) and dedicated film scanner (Minolta MultiPro) is used? I am new to the forum, but it appears that two sets of software will be needed, or am I misunderstanding forum messages?

A very interesting theme!

Dear Mr.President (of LSI of course;-))
I allready bought three different versions for my previous and actual scanners for the full price. (one for Powerlook II, one for Nikon LS30 with IT8 and one for my actual Epson 1680 pro with IT8 option) The first one for Umax was v 5.0 and has been updated to 5.5. So what can i expect on buying another one with IT8 option for my new Minolta Scan Elite 5400 (as soon as it apears to be finished)?
Can i expect a kind of stock-customers discount?

thank you for answering in advance
kind regards
your customer
Wolfgang

Cross Upgrade - Silverfast software

Postby gildeusa » Wed Jul 16, 2003 7:03 pm

How about a concerted effort by forum members addressed to President of LSI to voice concerns of having to purchase (at full price) a software version for every piece of scanning equipment purchased.

Also, don't know if anyone else has had poor response (ie. no response or very incomplete response) in troubleshooting use of down-loaded versions for testing???

In attempts to use Siverfast iA, I have had problems with software lockup, even with latest version while trying to use with Linocolor flatbed. When accessing help menue all I get is gibberish of codes which helps not at all.

It seems that Silverfast has much to offer; however, it is doubtful that I will invest for multiple copies (or any copies), when it seems impossible to have fair pricing for essentially the same software, plus some hope for technical assistance in trying to figure out operation of the software and/or troubleshooting lockup problems. A timely response from Lasersoft will be much appreciated in addressing these issues.

Sorry for your troubles but the ones i got for my scanners are almost OK (looking over some small bugs in the beginning).
I share your thoughts about some kind of "bundle pricing" or "staggered pricing for buying more than one copy", but the support was OK and fast every time i was in need of. On the other hand Lasersoft is a small to midrange company and (it seem to me) very depending on the support of the scanner manufactors so they have to invest lots of time to adopt the drivers to their needs, see it this way ;-)

Cross Upgrade

Postby gildeusa » Thu Jul 17, 2003 6:51 pm

Wolfgang,

I can fully appreciate the high cost of software development; however, being self-employed and being able to run one piece of equipment at a time, it would be nice to get a price break on the software (similar to other companies with periodic upgrades), especially where much of the content is identical it seems.

Also, with more defined responses to forum questions would be a great asset to members and software owners in troubleshooting problems (as my first forum experience seems to indicate many unanswered questions or incomplete responses to resolve problems with use of the software.

It seems that LSI has great reviews and great potential, but to date, I have had many problems with use of trial downloads with no tangible feedback to cure the problems, thus, mainly for that reason alone I am reluctant to invest without some hope of competent technical support. (The best software in the world suddenly becomes worthless without timely troubleshooting support!). It seems to me that if LSI could provide such accomodations it would pay off very well in the long run (by acing out the competition) as there are a pile of scanner users world-wide who are potential customers.

OK, common consent from my side

On the upper side of the forum window there is a "search" button, maybe your problem was allready solved in another thread or theme, give it a try with the topic you?re after.
A regular answering of every request would need a dedicated person only for forum questions and this will be manpower and extra costs for LSI and this means the SW would be more expensive as it is now. I found out that usually the development team itself and some very experienced users answers most of the questions BUT, this will take some time because they do it when they have time for it (after work or so).

I don?t know how this is handled in the USA, but i got my problems (serialisation process, wrong serial numbers for IT8 option and questions for upgrade downloads) always fixed immediately at the phone support or by private mail from the supporters! I can not believe that the company fails in this case over there in USA....

kind regards
Wolfgang

Have you come to any conclusion regarding cross upgrades?

I am moving from Nikon 4000 to Minolta 5400 hardware. I had Silverfast Ai 6 for the 4000, but is about to get rid of this scanner (and thus won't be using SF for 4000 anymore). As previous Sliverfast owner, can I purchase Silverfast for 5400 for partial price instead of buying full copy?

I am a little confused since few weeks ago when availability for 5400 was first mentioned on Lasersoft web site, I called US sales line and asked about cross upgrade option from one type of scanner to another and was told it was available, and asked SF for what scanner I had and what scanner I was moving to. When I further mentioned 5400 as the new scanner, they told SF version for it won't be available until later time.

Now that 5400 version is out, I called sales line again, but this time they told (in fact, the same person I believe) right away that cross upgrades are not sold and I should purchase full version.

Could you please clarify?

Thanks.

I second the request again (nearly half a year later).

I have four different versions of silverfast now.

I will move to two new scanner's in the near future.

I expect that a cross upgrade would be available at the same
level as an upgrade to an earlier version.

To be honest, if nothing happens in this area,it will force me
to move away from Silverfast.

Best regards

Dear Mr. President of LSI,

I am new to this forum and, first of all, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for your great product, SilverFast AI. I have started using it with my good ole Nikon LS-20 back in 1998 or so (paid full price) and purchased it again in early 2000, at full price and a little grudgingly, for use with its successor, a Polaroid SprintScan 4000, which I am still happily using today.

Yesterday, I have purchased a Reflecta DigitDia 3600 (aka PIE PowerSlide 3600). I will use this scanner to digitize my sizeable slide collection. I only bought it AFTER seeing that it is now supported by SilverFast, but, alas, I didn't check your price tag immediately: SilverFast AI 6 for this scanner costs EURO/USD 299 for "new customers" (as stated on your order page).

I was unable to find a price for "old customers" on your Web site.

Thus, my question to you is: how much do I have to pay for SilverFast AI 6 for this scanner as an old customer of LaserSoft? I do think that a discount of 50% or so would be most appropriate. I am sure that such a discount would improve your sales substantially and reflect favourably on your company and customer relations. You can rest assured that I would spread the word widely. ;-)

I am looking forward to your early reply and wish you a

Happy New Year!

Best regards from Hamburg/Germany,
Karsten Petersen

Cross Upgrade Pricing Please

Postby MikeD56 » Fri Jan 09, 2004 9:48 pm

First post so I hope this goes well!!

I'd also like to see a pricing on this. I have an Epson 3200 Pro and Nikon IV ED. With IT8 option I'd have to pay for a new copy of Ai for the Nikon and 2 copies of IT8, at list. It just doesn't seem fair or right and I would not do it.
Thanks
Mike

Dear SilverFast users,

We are proud to announce our new solution for users with several SilverFast versions. From now on we offer a so-called multiversion-user price. This price depends on the SilverFast version for the new scanner you are interested in and is divided into four different price categories. For further information please ask our sales team by mail, fax or phone. We will be glad to provide you with more detailed information.
