Could anyone please tell me the meanings of the image types:
'Gold tones' - does this make the scanned image more gold or does it remove gold tones?

The descriptions of the various choices are given in the manual, page 33, but here's a short description of the ones you asked about:
Gold Tones- optimized for photos of jewelry
Technic - to enhance contrast for technical drawings/photos such as blueprints and photos for technical manuals
H-S-Cast does remove color casts from highlights and shadows.
