Under Options > Special in Silverfast, one can select a filter (white, green red and blue).

Grateful if someone could explain how this affects the scanning process as well as which filter is standard for colour slides, color negatives and B&W negatives.

Regards,

Eric Lawrie

Colour Filter (Blind colour)

Select the colour , which you want the scanner to ignore during monochrome scans. You can choose between red, green and blue.

I think most versions now include a White option (don't ignore any?) along with red, green and blue.

The sensor has unequal sensitivity to the three colours. It will be most sensitive to green. If you prescan an image in B&W mode and then cycle through the options you'll see what its does.

I tend to leave it on default, but occasionally an image is better suited to red or blue due to the image tonal characteristics. Think red, green and blue filters when taking a B&W photograph and you'll get a pretty good idea of where it could be used to best effect.
