I am a little confused.

Why are the SF Ai/SE updates on VersionTracker newer than the ones available here? For example, r40 for the Microtek ScanMaker 5700 is available on VersionTracker but only r33 is available here.

Please also explain the difference between d40 and r40? Is 'd' is for Demo? Are there any differences in functionality between d40 and r40?

And... d42 of SF Ai for the Nikon LS2000 is available but users of the Nikon 4000ED are still using r35 (or 25 according to versiontracker). Can users of the 4000ED use the LS2000 d42 software?


I would really like to see automatic notification of updates by email. When might we see this? An advertised improvement in SF Ai v6 was semi-automatic update downloading but I haven't seen it yet. Has anyone else?

Update.

It has been an 'interesting' night. While transferring the r40 updates for HDR and Microtek from my main Mac to my scanning Mac, the directory on my scanning Mac's external HD became corrupt. Fortunately, DiskWarrior v2 was able to recreate the drive's directory although scans made yesterday were lost.

I then installed the r40 update for Microtek and began rescanning the documents whose scans had been lost. Moments later, I discovered the difference between the Release versions and Demo versions of SilverFast. My new scans had the words 'Demo' etched across them. why doesn't SilverFast display a dialog when it is launched to say something like "This is a demo version. The word 'Demo' will be watermarked on all scans produced with this software." ???

Tonight was not a night for getting work done.

So the question must be asked. Why are the demos more update than the releases? The Microtek demo is d40 while the Microtek release is only r33. Are we worth less after paying for the product? <g>

1. 601d35 would be a demo and 601r35 the corresponding release version.

2. The difference between a demo and a release do not concern the features, there are the same. The demo version prints a watermark on the image.

3. It is true it would be nice to have a better way to let the user know that he's using a demo (for example in the name that appears when one imports the plug-in from SF_App or Photoshop).

4. Demo and release versions on the web do not have the same release number, because this number changes quite often and it is a tough task to "produce" all the plug-ins and installers at once. However, it is true that the release numbers between a demo and a release should not be too different.

5. As far as the automatic notification of updates by email is concerned, some users might want that, but others just hate it , especially if there are often updates with slight differences. It could still be an option. The semi-automatic update tool will come very soon: the main part of it is finished.
