LaserSoft Imaging

I have an Epson 2450 scanner that I'm using with Silverfast Ai 6 and Photoshop 7. After calibrating with the Fuji IT8 target provided by Silverfast, I notice that the pure white and pure black elements on the IT8 target do not scan as pure white or black when I check the color values in Photoshop. I realize that they won't be perfect, but I would expect them to be a little bit closer. Here are the values within Photoshop:

White = R: 240, G: 244, B: 243
Black = R: 37, G: 37, B: 33

Is this normal? Or is there something else I can do to improve this?

IT8 Calibration does not create pure white and black

SilverFast Ai's IT8 calibration does not set white and black point to specific values as this might limit the overall dynamic range that can be achieved by the scanner. Instead SilverFast Ai keeps those points, so to say, floating.

In order to achive perfect white and black, you should either use the SilverFast Ai auto-adjust or for perfect results set white and black points with the eyedropper tool from the Highlight-Shadow tool.
