I am very much an amatuer in this area, so I will explain what I would like to accomplish, and perhaps you can direct me to the correct solution. I have about 1500 35mm slides of my family and I would like to digitize them and then store them on a CD ROM and then be able to play them back on my television through a DVD player.

I have been looking at the Pacific Image line of scanners, and they provide SilverFast SE with the hardware.

From reading your Website, it seems like I may need some software (like Photoshop) in addition to SilverFast. Also, I have not seen any mention of getting an end result in DVD format.

Can you help me understand all of the pieces that are necessary ?

Sincerely, Paul Horbal

Dear Paul,

the minimal configuration you need is a scanner  and SilverFast SE. Indeed, you can download the free stand alone application which enables to use all the SilverFast products without any other host application:

However, if you have so many slides to scan, you should maybe purchase a scanner that enables batch-scanning to save some time.

The best would be to get a scanner delivered with SilverFast Ai. See below the link to get an idea of the differences between Ai and SE:
