Tips for better scans ...

Postby Fabio » Tue Jan 31, 2017 12:41 am

I own an Epson V800 scanner, the software I have installed is "SilverFast AI Studio 8.8", I made the scanner calibration with the "Target IT-8 4x5 Fuji" of Lasersoft and monitor calibration I relied on "X- Colormunkidisplay rite ".

And 'well it is known that the real resolution of my scanner is attested to 2300 dpi, although the last review of "Scandig" states that the V800 used with sw SilverFast AI Studio 8.8 arrives at a true resolution of 2600 dpi, in practice using this software you have the opportunity to exploit the full potential of the scanner .... and here is my question:

to exploit the maximum potential of the fact that my scanner / the technical / and or tricks you could explain to me to reach the highest quality achievable?

Let me explain, for example, he cites a "trick" to set the parameters before scanning with V800: "... you need to perform a scan at the maximum resolution of 6400 dpi in 48-bit and then set SilverFast to save a Tiff 1: 2 getting a good 3200 "actual" ... ok, that's fine, but how do? What are the step-by-step steps to do that? ... Or should we all become electronic engineers to be able to do (or at least try) decent scans?

Finally, according to you, since I have never endured "the glass" between the slide and the scanner lens, the removal of the glass sheet would lead to the actual benefits or forget it?

Thanking you and waiting for your expert answer, a cordial greeting.

Dear Mr Kramer,

The resolution can simply be set in the Scan dimensions dialog.
The optimum setting also depends on the material you are scanning.
My suggestion is to compare scans at different resolutions and compare them in 100% view. Check which values gives you full details without simply blowing up the scan.

Kind regards,
Arne
