SF6 Bug-Scan window size and image cropping

Environment - We are testing LS6 on Mac OS 9.2.1 with dual monitors, PhotoShop 7.0.1 attached to a Nikon 8000 scanner. The hardware and software are properly installed and tested.

Scan Window ? When SF6 is launched (in either stand alone mode or as a PS plug in,) the scan window opens on the image monitor, nearly filling the entire screen (very useful new feature.) The scan frame within the scan window is cropped on the right hand side. When a prescan is performed, the scanned image is also cropped on the right hand side by 10 to 20%.

Work Around- If you shrink the scan window (either before or after the prescan) the image will fill the now much smaller scan window . Any rotation of the prescan window, intermittently, will crop the image again and the window must be resized.

While this is an acceptable short term work around, the problem of a small scan window is a significant one. We intend to use PS6?s powerful features to do as much of image enhancement work as close to ?the scanner? as possible. The shrunken scan window is too small for our work and users should not have to manually adjust the scan window every time.

The unrotated and rotated preview have its own window sizes. The first time they will open at a maximum size. When you change the window size, the new size will be saved independend for unrotated and rotated preview. This means, when you later open SilverFast again, you will see the same window sizes as in an earlier session.
That?s just how it should work. We have no big experience with multiple monitors. At least, this should work, if you place SilverFast on the main screen.

In case of any problems, please feel free to contact our support at support@silverfast.de.

Resolved-Cropped scan window problem

Eric, thank you for your well thought out reply. Based on your comments we tested SF6 as you suggested and the cropped scan window problem has been resolved. The cropping of the scan window was due to the fact that we opened the scan window on the ?image? monitor and not the ?main? monitor.

In our line of work we must use two monitors to achieve the level of color accuracy that we need. As such we do not put anything (menue bars, folders, tool pallets, etc.) on our image monitors. In order to use SF6, we now must makie the image monitor the main monitor and this adds the menu bar on top of the image screen.

Suggestion - Obviously SF6 is a multi-monitor aware application (I realize most of this work is done by Apple OS) but it?s an important feature of your product. For example if you open any SF6 window in a second monitor, SF6 remembers where that window was last used. Upon subsequent recall of that window, SF6 opens the window on the appropriate monitor. (By the way this includes the scan window.) So it?s easy to assume that the scan window is also aware of the second monitor.

If you can modify SF6 so that it remembers not only where the sacn window was last used, but also the size of the last scan window, you will make a subtle yet useful change to your product.
