Maybe I was mistaken, but I was under the impression that Silverfast version 6 did not support Mac OS X, I understand that the Mac OS X USB drivers for my Epson 1600 scanner are yet to be released by Epson, however, I have attached my scanner by SCSI and Silverfast 6...07 works with no problems at all !!

In the above message I forgot to mention that I was using Mac OS 10.2.1
It seems that Apple have added more scsi support with this upgrade !

You are correct. OSX 10.2 broke the SCSI support. 10.2.1 has obviously fixed these bugs.
