still my only choice is silverfast! which to me suits me BEST!
sharpening algorhythm is great, image is sharp and does not introduce too much more artifacts.
is dynamic range of good old Ls2000 limited hence a bit more noise than the polaroid which has more pixels and d-range?
would the 5.5 do magic for this good old fine film scanner, Ls2000 has maybe just enough D-range for negative film(let's hope the negfix will do miracles!), any fix for the Ls2000 inherent noise when scanning dark areas(esp in positive film!)
when pushed to 5400pixels(interpolation)i also notice more NOISE and images not AS sharp as 2700dpi(suppose to be, right?), would future interpolation algorhythms produce margin or better results?(asking to much?)thxs!

I am a little surprised about your remark about the LS 2000 and noise, I scan a lot of slides with a LS 2000 (and LS 4000), but don't encounter any noise in the dark areas, I have a lot of underwaterslides with really dark/black areas, and there is no noise ever!

The LS4000 is much better in terms of colourmatching, and resolution. On the other hand the scanning times are to long compared to a LS2000. Silverfast works very fine with both.

Don't bother to much about ROC and GEM it can not make me very happy with the Nikon Software, I hope there will be a nice Silverfast solution once!

The only thing I encounter with the LS2000, which could be better is the "colourmatching" with slidescanning (same with negs, but this can be bypassed with NEGAFIX)but Silverfast or Adobe PS6 are very well capable in solving/adjusting this. I also fiddle alot with the "LED brigthness" of the separate RGB channels.
These scanners take alot of time to master, so don't be tempted to replace it too fast.

One last remark about noise, all scanners have noise, but I personally think these Nikon scanners are the best in terms of low noise levels.
